Return to the

Supreme Court

We returned to the Supreme Court to film Supreme Court justices and high school students as they discussed some of the landmark decisions made by the court over the years.

I used my two Sony EX1 cameras, one on the  justices and the other on the students.

It was a big production - six cameras, a jib, and a very tight deadline for setting everything up. Location Lighting provided a half dozen Kino vistabeams; we shot on Sony XDcam EX cameras and used a Convergent Design Nanoflash to record from the jib arm camera - an HDX 900 with a Fuji 4.5 mm lens.

I just bought a mint Canon Scoopic MS 16mm movie film camera to add to her growing collection of 16mm and 8mm movie cameras.

This camera is amazing for filming weddings. The Canon Scoopic was last made in 1977 and is in the Hall of Fame of 16mm cameras. I am testing it now with the new crystal sync audio modification. I am excited to use it on my upcoming wedding films.

A few of my favorite photographers gave amazing presentations including: Matt Mendelsohn, Greg Gibson, Bambi Cantrell, Yervant, David Ziser (who shot my sisters wedding 19 years ago), Jeff Lubin, Rachel LaCour Niesen and Andrew Niesen, Jessica Claire, and Denis Reggie.

I also saw many friends there; Justine Ungaro, Jennifer Domenick, Robert Isacson, Clay Blackmore, Michael Bennett Kress, Geoff Chesman, Rodney Bailey Ron Dawson (who gave a wonderful presentation), David Robin, Dave Williams, David Hohenthaner, Brooke Rudnick, Daniel Boswell, Steve Moses, and Matthew Jeppsen.

The People's Inaugural Project

Jenny and her team covered this amazing 3 day event for the Stafford Foundation.

The People’s Inaugural Project and Ball is the brainchild of Earl Stafford and his family who wanted to do something special to celebrate this event by inviting the people who would never otherwise have the opportunity to attend such an event.

My video team covered the guests checking into the hotel, choosing their gowns and tuxedos in the free boutique that was set up.  We filmed the private reception that evening on the 12th floor glass garden terrace, a Morning Prayer Breakfast with great musical talent and inspirational ministers. Then we shot the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Luncheon with Martin L King III speaking and lots of other great speakers and musical talent and another reception that evening. On Tuesday I ventured to the Capitol in the massive crowds, we covered a reception and three Balls that evening.

The Peoples Inaugural Ball, January 20th, 2009

We shot with two Sony EX-1 HD video cameras, I used a Canon HV30 for the walk and subway ride to the Capitol, it helped me blend in and get through the crowd without drawing attention to me or my subjects. A Sennheiser MKH - 416  mic and blimp on boompole and Lectrosonics wireless microphones. An Anton Baurer Ultra light 2 on poll. Sachtler tripod, DVMultiRig and all the usual video toys.   We had the great fortune to work on this project with the amazing and super talented photojournalist Matt Mendelsohn.

For the full summery of my inaugural experience visit here: My Inaugural.

Here is an article in Wedding & Event Videography Magazine about the shoot.

  The 10 Questions Most Videographers

 DON’T Want you to Ask:

1)   How will my movie sound? How will you record the reception music?
2)   How do you handle lighting?
3)   How do you plan to tell the story of my day and make it personalized?
4)   What vendors would refer me to you if I asked for the best?
5)   May I see other client’s work, not just a demo?
6)   What is your style?
7)   What is your backup plan?
8)   How do you get great shots without being in the way?
9)   How will you know what to use in my movie?
10) Why are you so inexpensive or why are you so expensive?

But Jenny will be happy to discuss these with you.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About

         Jenny Lehman.....

 1. As a youth was an amateur equestrian and got my first pony at age 7.

 2. My first car at age 16 was an orange van with flames on the doors. I called it Flames and wanted to live in it like a hippy and travel to outdoor art shows selling my photography after high school. It never happened.

 3. My first real job was the summer after graduating high school. I was a projectionist at a movie theater. Yes I love Cinema Paradiso. I also worked in the ticket sales, concession stand, as an usher and even painted the parking lot curb, all for $1.25 an hour. They offered me the assistant manager job for $2.50 hour, but I decided to go to college instead.

 4. Although an average high school student at Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati, I was awarded the only full scholarship to The Art Institute of Atlanta in 1977 and graduated first in my class.

 5. My biggest regret in life was not joining the Peace Corps right after college. It’s not too late.

 6. In 1980, I moved to Washington DC to work for the National Geographic Society as a photographic technician. The second week I started I was given a burned 35mm film canister to hand process. The images were a series of Mount St. Helens eruption, showing the explosion getting closer and closer to the photographer. The photographer died from the explosion while taking these images.

7. While working at NGS, I was the first person to ever see photographic images of the Titanic. Robert Ballard gave me 3 rolls of film at 11:30 pm. I processed the film and chose the first 5 images to reproduce and show the next morning at the press conference announcing the discovery of the Titanic.

 8. I enjoy adventurous vacations. A few things I have done on my vacations have included skydiving, bungee jumping, hang gliding, parasailing, hot air ballooning, helicopter riding, and scuba diving, I was PADA certified on the Great  Barrier Reef. I dove with 80 sharks while feeding them in the Bahamas, went camel trekking through Australia, pony trekking through Lesotho, rode on the back of an ostridge in Oudtsoorn South Africa (I only lasted about 10 seconds), and rode on the back of a Harley through Australia's outback.  For several years I used to videotape bicycle races by riding backwards on the back of a motorcycle while keeping pace with the racing cyclists.

9. I used to be an avid white water rafter. I have rafted 6 different Class IV rivers, in rafts and rubber duckies. And I have only fallen out once.

 10. I love all the arts including the performing arts. I especially love local theatre, off and off off Broadway including stand-up comedy. I am a huge Cirque du Soleil fan and have attended every show at least once.

Bungee jumping in Australia and shark diving.

I was the cinematographer/videographer for the Christopher Heinz and Alexandra "Sasha" DeRuyter Lewis wedding  at St. John's Episcopal Church  Lafayette Square  across the street from the White House and the reception was held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington DC. The event was just nominated for an International Esprit Award for Best Wedding Over $200,000. and won Best Wedding in the 2008 Washington DC ISES Capital Awards competition.

It truly was a red hot wedding. Sen. John Kerry rocked out with his guitar with "Johnny B. Good" and "Rings of Fire." And Blink 182's Tom DeLong, a friend of the groom played a super solo of his own.

WEVA EXPO  in Las Vegas - August 2007

I attended my 17th Annual WEVA Expo and was a multi seminar speaker. My 2 two-hour workshops were on How to Videotape a Wedding Ceremony - Boot Camp and How to Videotape a Reception - Boot Camp.

Mock Wedding Xtreme

I demonstrated my unique Hidden Multi Camera presentation in the first-ever Mock Wedding Xtremeas it unfolded "LIVE" at the Expo. Hiding my cameras in the flowers and plants, behind the candelabra, and in the drapes and canopy, I am able to get many different and unique views without the knowledge of the guests or couple. These cameras record wonderful and unique special moments unseen by others, making an extraordinary video to watch.

Question: Can you see the five hidden cameras I have mounted on the stage?

Answer: 1. hidden in tree 2. hidden in drapes of canopy 3. mounted behind the candelabra 4. mounted with suction cup on side of podium 5. mounted in the flowers.

PMA Expo  - Wedding

I was honored to be selected as one of only 6 videographers in the world to speak at the Photo Marketing Association Expo in Melbourne Australia. My presentation was titled "How to Videotape a Wedding Ceremony."

My fellow presenters were Chris Chibucos of Furlavision Productions, Natalie Neal of Glass Slipper Productions, Dave Williams of DVideography, Eng Tiong Teo of Pilgrim Pictures, and Ross Herewini of efilms.

Then, I traveled to Sydney where I filmed a beautiful Jewish wedding set in Centennial Park and their reception in the Crystal Palace, at Luna Park. I worked with super talented videographers Dave and Troy of D'nM Video Productions of Sydney.
